Dear Nearly Nakeds
Since The Nearly Naked Veg Company started trading back in June 2009 many things have happened and changed, sadly most to our dis-advantage.
At the time of launch I worked out pricing for our boxes which reflected the costs of growing and delivering high quality fruit and veg without us being greedy. I have never understood why local or even organic produce should have a so-called “premium” on the price. Surely local produce should be cheaper as it has very few food miles associated with it? The only conclusion I could come to was that, in general, they were very small producers and in order to make a living they needed to have higher prices. Having said that as far as the large commercial growers are concerned, with all their economies of scale, there was no real excuse!
The same applies to the organic sector. Smaller producers need the revenue and the larger producers just get greedy. That’s why when they get to a certain size they just can’t stop growing until it all goes wrong which by the time they have already destroyed all the little guys.
Anyway, enough of my rant! The point I’m trying to make is that, despite my best efforts (and I have tried to hold off having to do this for 3 months now) and due to constant price increases in fuel, and the worst winter we have seen for years, I have now run out of choices and I find myself having to increase each of our prices by approximately 12%. I hope you understand that they are genuine reasons for needing to do this and that we still believe that the boxes represent genuine value for money – this is not a decision that we have taken lightly.
So… what is the damage?
- Veg Boxes (applies to Monday and Saturday Deliveries)
Small veg £7.75 Medium veg £8.90 Large veg £11.15
Please see the website for changes to the prices of the meat boxes.
(Fruit Boxes (applies to Monday and Saturday Deliveries)
Medium fruit £10.00 Large fruit £12.25
Please note that existing repeat orders will not be affected until the order is renewed, as we have already committed to offer you that price for the duration of that order. However, when the repeat order is renewed the pricing will change to reflect the increase. This is our way of thanking our regular customers for their continued custom and helping to lessen the impact it has on you.
The website will be updated around midday on Saturday 27th February and so the prices will affect any orders placed after that time.
We do hope that you understand our reasons for doing this and look forward to continuing to supply you with delicious tasting, competitively priced, Nearly Naked Veg for as long as possible.
Ben
