Finally some good weather so I think it is about time I went and got the sweetcorn in the ground. I am glad I did not put the earlier stuff in because I don’t think it would have handled this variable weather very well. A week of this sun will warm the soil up enough for me to get the courgettes, sugarsnap peas and fine beans into the ground with our main crop of leeks needing perfect weather this year as they are going in as seed for the first time this year rather than an established plant. Sadly I have made the decision today to indefinitely suspend the sale of our Veg Box range.
The boxes have been going for three years now and I have farmed all my life but I can honestly say this year has been the worst year in my career for growing horticultural produce.
